About Kalsubai Peak
Kalsubai Peak is the highest mountain peak in Maharashtra, standing at an elevation of approximately 1,646 meters (5,400 feet) above sea level. Located in the Sahyadri mountain range of the Western Ghats, the peak lies in Akole Taluka of Ahilyanagar District near the famous village of Bari. Kalsubai is popularly known as the “Everest of Maharashtra” and is one of the most visited trekking destinations in the state.
The peak offers breathtaking panoramic views of surrounding forts and mountains including Alang Fort, Madan Fort, Kulang Fort, Ratangad Fort, Harishchandragad and the scenic Bhandardara Dam region. The mountain is especially popular for sunrise treks, monsoon trekking, camping, photography, and adventure tourism.
Historical and Cultural Importance
The peak is named after a local woman named “Kalsu,” who according to local legends disappeared on the mountain. A small temple dedicated to Goddess Kalsubai is situated at the summit and attracts thousands of devotees during religious festivals and trekking seasons. The temple is an important spiritual site for local villagers and pilgrims.
